Every spring, Istanbul comes alive with a dazzling display of colourful tulips. Close to one million of the flowers bloom in parks and gardens across the city. The tulips are part of a tradition that dates back to the Ottoman Empire. An ambassador for Emperor Ferdinand I to Suleiman the Magnificent brought the tulip to the Northwestern Europe in 16th century.
