Dating back to 1782, only the selamlık divanhane section of Şerifler Yalısı has survived to the present day. Emirgan sahilinde, Boğaziçi’nin huzurlu sularına bakan Şerifler Yalısı, İstanbul’un yitip giden ahşap yalılarına inat hâlâ ayakta duran bir şaheser. 18. yüzyıl sivil mimarisinin zarif bir temsilcisi olan bu yapı, sadece Rumeli yakasının en eski yalılarından biri olmakla kalmaz, aynı zamanda iç süslemelerinin inceliğiyle de kendine hayran bırakır.
Tarihi 1782 yılına kadar uzanan Şerifler Yalısı’ndan günümüze sadece selâmlık divanhane kısmı ulaşmıştır. Osmanlı Barok dönemi mimarisinin inceliklerini yansıtan bu ahşap yapı, 1850-1860 yılları arasında kapsamlı bir değişim geçirmiştir. Ancak, yalının en büyük kaybı, 1900’lerde eklenen üç katlı büyük harem dairesinin, 1940’larda sahil yolunun genişletilmesi sırasında yıkılması olmuştur. Buna rağmen, yalının ayakta kalan bölümü, yaşanan zorluklara meydan okurcasına güzelliğini korumayı başarmıştır.
1970’lerde dönemin mülk sahibi tarafından Kültür Bakanlığı’na devredilen yalı, titizlikle yürütülen bir restorasyon sürecinden geçerek bugünkü görkemine kavuşmuştur. Şerifler Yalısı, 2007 yılında ÇEKÜL Vakfı ve Tarihi Kentler Birliği’ne tahsis edilmiştir. Bugün, yalnızca geçmişin izlerini değil, aynı zamanda geleceğe yönelik koruma çalışmalarını da barındıran bir merkezdir. Selâmlık bölümünün yanı sıra, arkasındaki Bendegân binasında hizmet veren bu iki kuruluş, yalıyı büyük bir hassasiyetle korumaya devam etmektedir.
