Product Description
Yarimburgaz Cave is a limestone cave located near the village of Yarimburgaz in the northern part of Istanbul, Turkey. The cave has a total length of about 4 km and is divided into two main sections: the upper gallery and the lower gallery. The upper gallery is located at the entrance of the cave and is the most visited part. It features impressive stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a large chamber known as the “Palace of Crystals.” The lower gallery is more difficult to access and is not open to visitors.
The cave was first discovered in 1960 by a group of amateur cavers, and since then it has been the subject of several scientific studies. The cave has been found to contain a wide variety of mineral deposits, including calcite, aragonite, and dolomite, as well as many other minerals.
Yarimburgaz Cave is also known for its rich prehistoric record. Archeological excavations in the cave have uncovered evidence of human habitation dating back to the Paleolithic period, around 100,000 years ago. The cave has been identified as one of the most important archaeological sites in Turkey and Europe.
It has been open for visitors since 2012. Since it’s natural habitat, there are some strict rules and regulations to maintain the cave’s condition. The visit is guided and time limited.
If you ever have the chance, visiting this cave and the other cave in Turkey is a unique and memorable experience.
