Şehzade Mosque, also known as Şehzade Camii, is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture located in Istanbul’s Fatih district. Built between 1543 and 1548 by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan, it was commissioned by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent to honor his beloved son, Şehzade Mehmed, who tragically died at the age of 22. The Şehzade Complex (Külliye), of which the mosque is the centerpiece, includes several auxiliary structures such as a madrasa, an imaret (soup kitchen), a caravanserai, and tombs. Şehzade Külliyesi, caminin merkezinde yer aldığı bir komplekstir ve içinde medrese, imaret, kervansaray gibi yapılar bulunur. Bunlar arasında en dikkat çekeni, Şehzade Mehmed’in türbesidir. Çiçek motifleri ve canlı çinilerle süslenmiş bu türbe, Sultan Süleyman’ın oğluna duyduğu derin üzüntüyü yansıtan zarif bir yapıdır.
Şehzade Camii’ni ziyaret etmek, yalnızca Osmanlı mimari dehasına tanıklık etmekle kalmaz; aynı zamanda imparatorluğun en güçlü ailelerinden birinin duygusal tarihine dokunma fırsatı sunar.
